AFTER Master Bathroom Remodel
Opening up the shower area made this bathroom feel lighter and more spacious.
BEFORE Master Bathroom Remodel
The shower enclosure gave the whole bathroom a claustrophobic feel.

AFTER 2008 Bathroom Remodel
This lovely cabinet serves as a vanity with a drop-in sink and custom-made granite countertop and backsplash.

This is the previous vanity.

IN PROGRESS 2008 Bathroom Remodel
It always looks worse before it looks better. The vanity wall had to be opened to allow framing for the new medicine cabinet. The plumbing vents were brought up to code, and the plumbing rerouted for the new sink. New electrical boxes were also installed.
AFTER 2008 Bathroom Remodel
The bench under the window matches the vanity and provides extra storage. The floor is tiled with 1-inch white hexagonal tiles and square black border tiles.
BEFORE 2008 Bathroom Remodel
This cabinet was too bulky. The apron under the windowsill had been removed to make room for it.
IN PROGRESS 2008 Bathroom Remodel
Parts of the subfloor had to be removed because of water damage, and to allow access for the plumbers. The subfloor was replaced and concrete board laid down for tiling.
AFTER 2008 Bathroom Remodel
The faux marble shower surround was not replaced, but the fixtures were updated to match the sink. The new panelled closet door matches the bathroom door.

Two old light fixtures were removed and the holes patched.

2007 AFTER Remodel
A glass shower door, new cabinetry, and floor tiles make for a clean, modern look.
2007 BEFORE Remodel
Old shower and floor tiles were failing and looked outdated.

AFTER National Home Bathroom Remodel
The Champaign - Urbana area has numerous examples of National Homes, pre-fabricated houses manufactured in the 1940s and '50s in response to an urgent national need for affordable post -war housing. They present special challenges for the remodeler, as their construction is not standard 2x4 framing. New Prairie has worked in many of these homes.
AFTER National Home Bathroom Remodel
The flooring is cork tile covered with an environmentally-friendly sealant. Cork is warmer than ceramic tile, eliminating the need for expensive sub-flooring heat mats. The rich red-browns of the medicine cabinet and the flooring give the room warmth and color.
National Home Bathroom Remodel in progress
New subway tiles, layed in a running bond, cover the shower/bath enclosure. Built-in shampoo and soap niches are wrapped with a waterproof membrane before tile goes on.
BEFORE National Home Bathroom Remodel
The old comes out to make way for the new. Any water damage issues can be addressed at this point.
AFTER 2008 Urbana Bathroom Remodel
This Urbana bathroom needed repair and updating before the house was put up for sale. A new vanity and countertop add storage space. New Prairie removed the wall tiles and skim-coated the area with drywall compound. After some sanding and painting, the walls look new again.

BEFORE 2008 Urbana Bathroom Remodel
The unique old sink was salvaged and donated to the Preservation and Conservation Association (PACA) in Champaign.
AFTER 2008 Urbana Bathroom Remodel
A cultured marble surround graces the bath area.
BEFORE 2008 Urbana Bathroom Remodel
Tile failure and mold issues were extensive enough to call for replacement of the entire surround.

AFTER Downstairs Bath Remodel
This newly remodeled bathroom features limestone composite flooring that is fortified with a polymeric resin. It is warmer than tile and reportedly less prone to cracking.
AFTER Downstairs Bath Remodel
A cultured marble surround and obscure glass complete the roomy shower area.

AFTER Downstairs Bath Remodel
A soffit was removed (see BEFORE pictures below) to make room for an over-the-toilet cabinet, mirror, and light fixtures.

BEFORE Downstairs Bath Remodel
In order to be more practical, the space needed a shower enclosure rather than this squeezed-in tub.
BEFORE Downstairs Bath Remodel
The soffit makes the bathroom feel even smaller.

AFTER Champaign Bathroom Remodel
Red walls warm this Champaign bathroom. A smaller, low-flow toilet and pedestal sink make the room feel larger.

Before the remodel, the towel bar was located inside the shower area.

AFTER Champaign Bathroom Remodel
The tile floor in the bathroom is the same pattern as in the hallway, only smaller and laid in rows rather than on the diagonal.
2008 Bathroom Remodel
A unique feature of this bathroom is the small shelf under the window to the side of the toilet, tucked in behind the shower. If the shower door had extended all the way to the wall, it would have come to the middle of the window. With this solution, there is space for extra towels, candles, magazines, or toilet paper.

The original medicine cabinet was reused.

2006 Bathroom Remodel
Nostalgic forms are juxtaposed with modern colors in this Mahomet farmhouse bathroom. Subway tiles, a pedestal sink, and black and white 1 inch tiles are all a part of this ensemble that celebrates historical forms.
