New Prairie Construction’s commitment to preserving our historic structures has resulted in numerous Heritage Awards from the Preservation and Conservation Association of Champaign County.  We consider these the most notable:

 

  • Traditional Construction Heritage Award for the construction of the Straw Bale House, Urbana, Illinois (2008)
  • Residential Heritage Award for the renovation of West Farmstead, Sidney, Illinois (2008)
  • Landmark Heritage Award for the remodel of the McDowell House, an 1874 Victorian Italianate homestead of solid masonry; rural east Illinois (2007).
  • Commercial Heritage Award for the remodel of the building housing Robert’s Fine Jewelry (formerly Norman’s Jewelers); downtown Champaign, Illinois (2003).
  • Adaptive Use Heritage Award for the phase II renovation of the Orpheum Theatre, now the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum; Champaign, Illinois (2000).
  • Heritage Landscape Award for the construction of the pergola behind the former Wilbur Mansion; Old Town Champaign, Illinois (1999).
  • Landmark Heritage Award for the renovation of the former Wilbur Mansion; Old Town Champaign, Illinois (1998).

-- We’re also proud to note that New Prairie Construction was voted “Best General Contractors” by readers of The Octopus and The Paper (Champaign - Urbana's alternative weeklies) in 1999, 2001, and 2004 (the only years the category was offered).

-- In September 2008, New Prairie's straw bale house in Urbana was featured on 190 North, an eclectic television program out of Chicago.
